The City of Parramatta is located in Sydney's western suburbs, about 24 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. The City of Parramatta is bounded by The Hills Shire and Hornsby Shire in the north, the City of Ryde and the City of Canada Bay in the east, the Strathfield Council area and the Cumberland Council area in the south, and Blacktown City in the west.
The traditional owners of the Parramatta area are the Dharug Aboriginal people. The City of Parramatta is named from an Aboriginal word meaning "the place where eels lie down".
Rosehill Ward is bounded by the railway line, Hassall Street, Harris Street, Macarthur Street and Victoria Road in the north, Wharf Road, the Parramatta River, Homebush Bay, Powells Creek and Homebush Bay Drive in the east, the Western Motorway (M4) in the south, and Burnett Street, the Great Western Highway, Good Street, Amos Street and the western edge of the former Parramatta Golf Club in the west.
Rosehill Ward encompasses the suburbs of Camellia, Clyde, Harris Park, Newington, Rosehill, Silverwater and Wentworth Point, the City of Parramatta parts of the suburbs of Auburn, Granville, Holroyd, Lidcombe, Mays Hill, Melrose Park, Merrylands and Sydney Olympic Park, and parts of the suburbs of Parramatta and Rydalmere.
